SUMMARY:The Season of Lent
DESCRIPTION:The season of Lent is a time of prayer\, fasting and self-examination in preparation for the celebration of the resurrection of the Lord at Easter. It is a period of 40 days — like the flood of Genesis\, Moses’ sojourn at Mount Sinai\, Elijah’s journey to Mount Horeb\, Jonah’s call to Ninevah to repent and Jesus’ time of testing in the wilderness. (The Sundays in Lent are not counted in this reckoning of the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter\, as every Lord’s Day is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.) \nIn the early church\, Lent was a time of preparation for the celebration of baptism at the Easter Vigil. In many communities of faith it remains a time to equip and nurture candidates for baptism and confirmation and to reflect deeply on the theme of baptismal discipleship. \nExcerpt taken from the Presbyterian Church USA website.

DESCRIPTION:The Wickwood Aikido Dojo is committed to building a community with an all-inclusive environment for everyone of all levels of experience\, age\, orientation and walk of life. Classes are meant to push people’s mental and physical capacities while staying safe\, developing traditional martial arts skills and principles\, and learning how to put those principles to use in everyday life. D’Angelo Sensei is dedicated to providing a program focusing on technical excellence and\, with a background in Zen alongside his martial arts training\, offers the opportunity to look at Aikido practice as a method for training the mind in conjunction with the body. Classes include empty hand Aikido practice\, along with Bokken (wooden sword) and Jo (short staff) training.
